Bullpups claim league title amidst grueling stretch

A trio of some of the most elite high school baseball talent throughout Kansas and Oklahoma showcased itself at Grant Sports Complex Friday afternoon as McPherson hosted 5A power Blue Valley Southwest and Oklahoma power Carl Albert, but the Bullpups dropped both games in the triangular despite putting up a serious fight.Blue Valley Southwest (15-5), Carl Albert (30-6) and McPherson (13-7) entered Friday’s triangular with a combined 58-18 record.

Area roundup: County teams finish up April

It was another busy week for the six McPherson County area small schools as they participated in 29 events.Several teams head into the final week of the regular 2024 spring season with high marks as the Moundridge baseball team is 104 and the Inman softball team is 13-3 while the Little River baseball team is also above .500 with a record of 10-6.Nearly every one of the six area small schools have had some impressive track/field meets and many are beginning to reach their peak just as they head into the final week before state regionals.Here is a quick recap of what we have:CANTON/GALVA EAGLES > In baseball the Eagles lost two games to Hillsboro on Tuesday before sweeping a doubleheader at home from Remington on Friday.On Tuesday, the Eagles lost game one 3-13 with Andrew Huxman, Gavin Robertson, and Shepp Kidd all pitching for Canton/Galva.

Lady Pup swimmers take second in Emporia

EMPORIA, Kansas – The second to last regular season meet for the McPherson High School girls swim team concluded on Thursday, April 25 as the Lady Pups battled through delays and sickness to capture second place in Emporia.Fresh off a first-place team finish in Salina, McPherson followed it up by taking second place in a loaded field in Emporia.

Bullpup tennis takes fifth at league meet

The first postseason competition across McPherson High School’s six spring sports teams was completed on Monday, April 29 as the Bullpups’ boys tennis team took fifth place at the AVCTL Division III and IV meet.After taking third place as a team at the league meet a season ago, McPherson rallied its young 2024 roster to a fifth-place finish on Monday after all singles players and doubles teams finished the day with a 1-2 record.McPherson’s top finish of the meet came from doubles pairing of Bryson Archer and Charlie Krug, who finished in fourth place after winning their first match of the day before dropping their final two.“The weather today was remarkable; sunny and very little wind in the seventies,” McPherson head tennis coach Tyler Brown said about the ideal weather conditions during Monday’s league meet.
