LINDSBORG, Kansas – For what felt like the first time this track and field season, the hefty Kansas wind toned it back a notch last Friday as McPherson High School came away with a first-place finish on the girls’ side and a third-place finish on the boys’ side following a meet hosted by Smoky Valley.If there is one thing Kansans can count on during spring time, it’s wind.

Tiger halt Lady Pups’ momentum

GODDARD, Kansas – An impressive 2-0-1 stretch followed a disappointing finish to the 18th annual McPherson Invitational Girls Soccer Tournament for McPherson as a deep and talented Lady Pups squad appeared to be finding their groove, but a 4-1 loss to Goddard-Eisenhower last Friday dropped McPherson’s record to 4-3-1 on the season.McPherson headed into the 2024 spring season with plenty of promise after returning much of its firepower from a season ago.

Area roundup: County schools stay busy

It was another busy week for the six McPherson County area small schools as they played 17 baseball/softball games and participated in six track/field meets.Here is a summary of the six small school events for the week of Monday, April 9 to Saturday, April 13:CANTON/GALVA EAGLES > Both the baseball and softball teams split a pair of doubleheaders this past week.The Lady Eagles won a pair of games hosting Marion on Tuesday with 16-1 and 6-2 wins before losing both ends of a doubleheader on Friday at Ell-Saline, 0-1 and 7-8.As for the baseball team, they lost twice at home to Marion on Tuesday, losing 4-19 and 1-7.

McPherson comes away with pair of sweeps at Winfield

WINFIELD, Kansas – One of the most grueling trips for McPherson in the AVCTL league resulted in the Bullpups taking the lengthy trek out to Winfield to take on the Vikings last Thursday, but the trip was more than worth it for McPherson as both the baseball and softball teams swept away Winfield.Baseball:After experiencing three straight doubleheader splits with Hutchinson, Circle and Wichita Collegiate, McPherson has righted the ship over the past week as they now ride a three-game winning streak following a win over Buhler and the sweep over Winfield.Although McPherson made the near two-hour trip to Winfield, it did not take long for the Bullpups to discard the Vikings as McPherson won both games via run rule, winning game one 13-3 after five innings and game two 23-0 after just three innings.In game one, a trio of McPherson pitchers held Winfield to just four hits and three runs with Ian Razak, Carter Allen and Brenden Doile running the show on the mound.

Bullpups take sixth at Doug Gayer Classic

One of the most circled dates on the McPherson High School sports calendar took place on Saturday, April 13 as the Bullpup boys tennis team hosted the annual Doug Gayer Classic, with McPherson finishing in sixth place.The annual tennis event that is hosted by McPherson takes place in order to honor past McPherson tennis coaching legend Doug Gayer.
