AUGUSTA, Kansas – With their backs against the wall following a 14-point loss to Mulvane on senior night, the McPherson High School football team secured its fourth win of the season last Friday by knocking off Augusta 32-0 on the road.McPherson came into its senior night matchup against Mulvane carrying a two-game winning streak after defeating Winfield and Rose Hill the two weeks prior, but a speedy Wildcats team and their elusive quarterback outpaced the Bullpups in a 35-21 loss. With consistency being a factor in McPherson’s 3-3 start to the year, the Bullpups found a way to get back on their feet with a dominant 32-0 shutout win over the Orioles. After a scoreless opening quarter by both teams, McPherson put its first points on the board just over halfway through the second quarter when Brock Richardson punched in a touchdown run to make it 7-0.With one minute and 54 seconds left before half, McPherson tagged on its second touchdown of the game as the deadly duo of quarterback Carter Allen and wide receiver Ashton Malm connected once again for a 14-0 lead at the break.A 26-yard field goal by Jaxon Hoover with 6:39 left in the third quarter made it a 17-0 McPherson lead, while a high snap on Augusta’s ensuing possession resulted in a safety to give the Bullpups a 19-0 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.A trick play was behind McPherson’s first score of the fourth quarter, as Allen tossed to backup quarterback Carter Bengtson who tossed it to Bishop Brown for the touchdown to make it 25-0 (failed PAT) just seven seconds into the quarter. One final insurance touchdown came with 4:35 to play when Richardson recorded his second touchdown of the game, but this time it came off a pass from Allen to give McPherson an ultimate 32-0 win.McPherson will conclude its regular season this upcoming Friday when they travel to take on rival Buhler at 7:00 P.M.
