Tigers sweep Bulldogs for Mayor’s Cup rights

McPherson’s two hometown college basketball teams took to the hardwood last Tuesday to decide who would claim ownership of the Mayor’s Cup, and Central Christian delivered two wins as the Tiger women won 59-58 and the Tiger men won 88-87.Men:Following a season-opening 80-77 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday, November 1 for McPherson and 2-0 start to the season for Central Christian (79-67 win over Tabor and a 90-71 win over Sterling), the two teams met on the hardwood last Tuesday to settle the battle for the Mayor’s Cup.McPherson owned a two-game winning streak over Central Christian heading into last Tuesday’s matchup after an 85-65 win in 2022 and a 79-65 win in 2023, but the Tigers earned their first win over the Bulldogs since 2018 (a 68-60 victory) by edging out a one-point 88-87 victory inside of Jerry Alexander Arena.The largest lead in the first half was owned by McPherson at a nine-point 21-12 advantage Collin Storr connected on a two-pointer with 13 minutes and 20 seconds left before half.

Eighth and seventh grade Pups open season

As the arrival of the 2024-2025 McPherson High School basketball nears, McPherson Middle School takes center stage as the Lady Pup eighth and seventh grade teams have kick-started their seasons.8th Grade:The McPherson Middle School eighth grade team opened its 2024 season with a road trip to Mulvane on Thursday, November 7, but the Wildcats pounced on the Lady Pups by handing them a 56-25 defeat.Against Mulvane, McPherson’s top scorer was Zayna Busse, who recorded seven points and eight rebounds.

Middle school Pups begin wrestling season

Wrestling season is officially underway in McPherson, but it’s on display at the McPherson Middle School as the Bullpups swept a pair of duals against Haysville and Haysville West on Monday, November 4.Against Haysville, McPherson won 49-42 and turned it around to go 2-0 by defeating Haysville West in dominating fashion 75-25 in their first action of the season.“I was very impressed at our first duals of the season today at Prairie Hills,” McPherson Middle School head boys wrestling coach Kaden Kretzer said.
