Wildcat boys take first, girls second in Trojan Classic debut

HILLSBORO, Kansas – With the annual Canton-Galva and Sedgwick mid-season tournaments disbanded, the Moundridge boys and girls basketball teams were in need of a place to play. Following this week’s Trojan Classic, it’s safe to say that the Wildcats have found a new mid-season tournament home as the Moundridge boys took first while the girls finished second.

Late rally not enough as Bullpups fall in MIT final

Less than 24 hours after delivering an electric walk-off finish to reach the McPherson Invitational Tournament championship game, the McPherson High School boys basketball team ran out of magic against Blue Valley West as a late rally fell short in a 54-47 loss. Roughly 18 hours before Saturday’s MIT championship game tipped off at 3:45 P.M., McPherson found itself locked in a tight battle against 6A’s Shawnee Mission East in the MIT semifinals after reaching that point by defeating Manhattan 78-53 win the opening round.

A busy week of basketball across the state of Kansas wrapped up Saturday night with the conclusion of mid-season tournaments, as a handful of McPherson County teams took home high placements in their respective tournaments.

Foundation awards grant to support skating program

The Moundridge Community Foundation (MCF) awarded a $1,000 grant to the Moundridge Recreation Commission (MRC) in December to support its skating event for students of USD 423. This grant helped to provide students with the opportunity to engage in physical activity and develop their skating skills in a safe and supportive environment.This was the first year for the skating event for fourth through eighth grade students, which left organizers uncertain as to what to expect.
