Commissioners hear shortened BPU report

Josh Bedel, General Manager-McPherson Board of Public Utilities (BPU), presented City Commissioners with the BPU report at Tuesday’s meeting.Due to snow and ice BPU has been concentrating on truck maintenance and projects that can be completed inside. Once the snow and ice melt, crews will concentrate on rebuilding the lines south the cemetery on Avenue A.

Bullpup wrestling goes top three in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Kansas – Basketball was not the only victim of Mother Nature’s temper tantrum two weekends ago as wrestling cancelations were also caught in the mix, but the McPherson High School boys and girls wrestling teams finally made their 2025 debut this past weekend in a tournament at Burlington.Both the McPherson boys and girls teams were set to kick off the new year on Thursday, January 9 with home duals against Winfield, but because of more heavy snowfall in the Winfield area, the duals were postponed until Thursday, February 6.Instead of McPherson making its initial 2025 appearance at home, it was made at the Burlington Invitational as the Bullpup boys finished second as a team (out of 19 teams) with 213.5 points and the Bullpup girls finished third as a team (out of 21 teams) with 155.5 points.Bullpup Boys:On the boys’ end, it was the 33rd straight year for the Burlington Invitational. With it came a stellar showing from McPherson, which included three first-place finishes and a total of six top three finishes (including the first-place finishers).The first of McPherson’s top finishers was Parker Hulvey, who now has a 10-5 record on the season, in the 106-pound weight class.

Bulldogs escape Builder for third straight win

WINFIELD, Kansas – Two weeks ago the McPherson College men’s basketball team found itself heading into 2025 with a 4-9 record, but since then, the Bulldogs having been riding a three-game winning streak as that continued last Saturday with a 78-77 win over Southwestern.Heading into Christmas break, McPherson garnered some momentum by snapping a six-game losing streak with a two-game winning streak following wins over Bethany (77-72) and Friends (77-69). Upon their return from the break, however, the Bulldogs fell victim to two straight losses on December 30 and New Year’s Eve, losing 119-108 to Saint Xavier and 69-58 to St.
