CVB awards grants

McPherson Mayor Tom Brown opened Tuesday’s meeting offering congratulations to the McPherson High School Boys’ Basketball team and Coach Kurt Kinnaman for winning the State Championship. During Tuesday’s meeting, the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) notified the McPherson City Commissioners about the approval of three Visitor Attraction Grants, which were finalized at the CVB's March 12 meeting.

Elyria sends seniors out with magical state run

COLBY, Kansas – A total of seven different McPherson County teams made their way to state last week in hopes of bringing home hardware, and one of those teams was Elyria Christian as the Eagles sent their seniors out in style by taking third place at the class 1A Division II state basketball tournament. Led by senior star Ty Romero, Elyria found itself back in the state tournament last week at Colby after dominating South Haven 57-24 in the sub-state championship game.

Lady Redskins finish runner-up, boys fall short early at state

DODGE CITY, Kansas – The excitement was there at the beginning of the week as both the Little River boys and girls qualified to play in the Class 1A Division I state basketball tournaments only to see the boys fall out early in the quarterfinals while the Lady Redskins came within seven points of a state title. The magic ended for the Redskin boys on Thursday as the eighth seed fought lone and hard to come up just four points short, 53-57, to top seeded and eventual state champion Olpe.

Wildcats fall short in search for three-peat

MANHATTAN, Kansas – A chance at an undefeated three-peat hung in the balance as the Moundridge boys basketball team faced a familiar foe in Saturday’s class 2A boys state championship game, but inopportune shooting woes against a lethal Sterling defense led to a 56-42 loss for the Wildcats. Heading into Saturday’s state championship game, it felt as if the 1990s had made its way to the 21st century.

Back on top: Wildcats claim first state title since 2011

MANHATTAN, Kansas – A Wildcat takeover took place inside of Kansas State University’s Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday, and it’s not the Wildcats many are thinking of as the Moundridge girls basketball team capped their season with a 62-51 win over Doniphan West in the class 2A state championship game. A year ago from now, Moundridge was already enjoying its spring break after falling 52-26 to Hillsboro in the sub-state championship game.
