The pitch was once again occupied beginning Tuesday as the McPherson High School soccer team opened its season with an 8-0 win over Salina Central, but a late arrival to Thursday’s home-opener against Andover Central resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Lady Pups. Coming off a third-place finish at state last season, McPherson started its 2025 campaign with an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Salina Central on Tuesday, March 25.

A new era was paired with a new softball season last Tuesday, and with it came four wins as the McPherson High School softball team started Daryl Hoelting’s first year at the helm with doubleheader sweeps over Valley Center and Augusta.

A one year hiatus of not winning a championship took place last season after the McPherson High School baseball team won class 4A state titles in 2022 and 2023, but the Bullpups look to be back in the state title hunt in 2025 as eight seniors return to the lineup. Although McPherson’s chances at taking home a third straight state title ended with a 3-1 loss to Rose Hill in the regional championship game, the Bullpups still managed to finish last season with a 20-8 record.

A new era will take place in 2025 for the McPherson High School softball team, as veteran softball coach Daryl Hoelting takes over a talented Lady Pups squad for the new season.
