The Wichita Grand Opera is bringing a “pops” program to the McPherson Opera House on Friday, May 27, at 7:30 p.m. “Don’t be scared off by the word opera,” John Holecek, Opera House Executive Director said. “You don’t need to show up in a tux or a gown and be afraid to cough or sneeze during the performance. This is a high- energy, highly professional show for all ages with a widely varied program.”
The program includes highlights from Donizetti’s opera “Daughter of the Regiment” as well as Verde’s “Rigoletto” and Bizet’s “Carmen.” Broadway and movies get a nod with music from “The Wizard of Oz,” “Kiss Me Kate,” and “West Side Story.” The songs popularized by the Three Tenors, Josh Groban, and Andrea Bocelli are also featured.
“Mary Hemmings, who booked this show for the Hutchinson Fox, said it was terrific,” Holecek said. “We’re a more intimate setting than the Fox, not to mention that we’re an authentic Opera House, so we’re a perfect setting for maximum audience impact. This show is a great way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.
