Carl "Corky" Edwards, 79, of Columbus, Neb., died Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Carl "Corky" Edwards, 79, of Columbus, Neb., died Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Word of Life Church in Columbus with Rev. Mariano Menendez officiating. A private family interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery, rural Lindsay, Neb. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Word of Life Church, Columbus Senior Center, or the Nebraska Royal Rangers.

Carl was born on Aug. 9, 1933, in Lawrence, Kan., to Carl Melvin and Esther (Adkisson) Edwards. He graduated from McPherson Kansas High School in 1951. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. On Aug. 28, 1954, Carl was united in marriage to Frances Williams in McPherson.

Carl worked as an engineer for Dale Electronics for over 30 years. He also owned New Life Book Shoppe.

He was a member Word of Life Church, Platte County Civil Defense, Pawnee Amateur Radio Club, Boy Scouts of America (Life Scout), Gideons, and a life time member of NRA. He was known as Rain Walker in his many years of service with the Nebraska Royal Rangers.

He was on the board for Columbus Senior Center for many years and an active volunteer there. Carl also was involved with the Walk to Emmaus ministry.

Carl is survived by: Daughters, Carla Edwards (Terry Hall) of Maryville, Mo., and Cathryn (Larry) Wenthe of Tescott, Kan.; sons, Carl M. (Jolaine) Edwards of Columbus, Neb., Chris S. (Deanna) Edwards of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Adam Edwards (Jeanine) of Riverside, Mo.; brothers, Jerry (Stella) Edwards of Dayton, Ohio, and Michael (Geneva) Edwards of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters-in-law, Mimi (Winston) Dixon of New Bern, N.C., and Betty (Rick) Anderson of McPherson, Kan., 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Esther Edwards; wife, Frances Edwards; brother, Roger Edwards; and grandson, Aaron Zachary Lokie.
