A Windom resident was seriously burned in a fire Thursday night.
Firefigthers were called to the 200 block of South Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday for a fire at a double wide trailer after being alerted to the fire by a passer-by.
The resident of the home, whose name was not released, was in the house at the time the fire.
He had to be helped from the burning structure, but Troy Smyers of the Windom Fire Department said he was unaware of who exactly came to the resident’s aid.
The resident received second- and third-degree burns.
McPherson EMS responded to the scene, and the patient was ultimately transported to an area hospital by Life Team.
His condition was not known as of press time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Kansas Fire Marshal. A cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Smyers also said he did not know in what area of the home the fire started.
The home is considered a total loss.
