The Bethany College softball team kicked off Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday with an afternoon doubleheader at Bethel College. The Swedes offense exploded, sweeping the Threshers 10-1 and 16-1 in two five-inning run rules.

"This was a strong start to the conference season," Swede coach Janice Esses said. "We had some great defensive plays and we consistently hit the ball hard. This was a great team effort. We had a chance to give some of our younger players opportunities."
After a scoreless first inning in game one, Bethany used five hits in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. Bethel responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Following a scoreless third, the Swedes tallied one walk and three hits to extend their advantage to 7-1. The Bethany bats continued to roll in the top of the fifth, recording three more runs to secure a 10-1 run rule victory.
Camille McIver threw the complete game for the Swedes, allowing one earned run off nine hits and one walk while striking out one.
 Jasmine Zaker went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs, and five RBIs while Jenna Carson had two hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
The Bethany bats stayed hot in game two as the Swedes came roaring out of the gate, scoring six runs off five hits in the top of the first.
The squad added two runs in the top of the second and two in the top of the third to lead 10-0. The Swedes continued to roll, tallying four runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth. The Threshers (3-12, 0-2 KCAC) plated one run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was all as Bethany completed the 16-1 run rule win.
Jasmine Stewart pitched the complete game, allowing one earned run off five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Zaker totaled two hits, three runs, and two RBIs while Carson had three hits, two runs, and one RBI. McIver contributed two hits, two runs, and two RBIs
The Swedes move to 2-0 in the KCAC, and 15-13 overall.
Bethany returns to action on Saturday when they host Tabor College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
