The Bethany College men's and women's tennis teams hosted Baker University for their first home dual meets of the season.
The men's team, who is currently ranked seventh in the NAIA, beat the Wildcats 8-1. The women's team fell to Baker 8-1.
The men's team looked sharp throughout the dual taking all matches except the No. three doubles slot.
Manuel Raga and Michiel Van Den Bogaert won the No. one doubles match 8-5. Juan Mateus and Bruno Campos defeated Baker 8-2 in the No. two doubles slot.
Raga cruised to a No. one singles win, 6-0 and 6-1 over Michael Draper. Mateus blanked Blake Barnard winning both sets by a score of 6-0.
Van Den Bogaert won No. three singles by a score of 6-1 and 6-4. Campos defeated Thomas Irick 6-3, and 6-2.
Dujoh Olliviere won a pro set 8-0 in the No. five singles match, and Thomas Mayberry knocked off Dylan Geick 6-1, 6-1 in the No. six singles position.
“The men's squad looked solid all around today,” Swede interim coach Tony Swiantek said. “Our top two doubles teams looked solid today which is big going into April. Raga and Juan made short work of their opponents at number one and number two singles, respectively, to start things off for us and Thomas had a great win at number six to help lock up the win.”
Juliana Bezerra picked up the women's only point knocking off Baker's Megan Henry by a pair of 6-3 scores in the No. one singles match. Kittey Edwards fell 9-7 in a hard fought superset.
“Our gals played tough against a very deep Baker team,” Swiantek said. “Julie had a great win at number one singles for us and is coming into form as we go into the conference swing. We have a couple more tune-ups for our women before conference matches start and these tough matches will have us ready.”
The women's team will play a home and home with the College of Saint Mary, Omaha on April 1-2.
The men's team will next be in action on April 4, when they host Southwestern College.
