Bethany College announced the hiring of John Markey Monday to lead the women’s soccer program.
"The Bethany College Department of Athletics officially welcomes John Markey as the Head Women's Soccer Coach," BC Dean of Athletics Dane Pavlovich said. "Coach Markey impressed the search committee with his knowledge of the Swede soccer program as well as a structured plan for the continued development of our team. We are very excited to announce this appointment."
Markey comes to Bethany from MidAmerica Nazarene University, where he spent the past two seasons as assistant soccer coach.
His responsibilities included running training sessions, recruiting, game day preparations, developing soccer specific weight training and summer fitness programs, budgeting, and coordinating a youth camp, among his other qualifications.
"I am very excited for the opportunity Bethany College has afforded me," Markey. "I want to thank Dane Pavlovich for believing I am the right person for the job. We already have a great core group of talented players that I am very excited to work with. With some additional pieces in the mix, I fully expect the 2015 season to bring huge successes not only on the field, but in the classroom as well. Go Swedes.”
Markey holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication management and a minor in mass communication from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is pursuing a Master's in Science of management from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Markey has National B, C, and D Coaching licenses and an Alabama State E Coaching license.
