WICHITA, Kansas – A team that was loaded with nine seniors finished its 2024 season in a game that is considered to be one of the toughest games to play in across all of sports, but the McPherson High School girls soccer team overcame the odds by taking third place at state in class 4A-1A by defeating Rose Hill 2-1 on Saturday, May 25.For an eighth straight season, McPherson qualified for state after defeating Buhler 2-0 in the regional championship and then advanced to the state semifinals by taking down Augusta 4-0 in the quarterfinals.Although a crack at the state championship game eluded the Lady Pups following a 3-1 loss to Cair Paravel in the semifinals, McPherson bounced back less than 24 hours later by overcoming a 1-0 deficit to take down the Rockets in a mentally and physically tough third-place game.“Perseverance is the word.

Bullpups medal twelve at state track and field

WICHITA, Kansas – The end of the 2023-2024 high school sports calendar came to close in the same familiar location at the all-classes state track and field meet at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium, where McPherson’s boys and girls track and field teams took 14th and eighth place, respectively.After a successful regional appearance at Scott Community, McPherson qualified in 20 different events for state, sending a total of 28 Bullpup athletes to the country’s largest high school track and field meet.

Hoover heroics: Birdie-eagle finish leads to state title

McPherson celebrates Pride Month

McPherson’s Fifth Annual Pride Festival is coming to the McPherson Community Building on Saturday, June 8 with the Enchanted Forest Weekend.Tricia Warring began organizing the annual Pride Festival in 2019 when a teenaged family member came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community.“Being bisexual myself, I knew how hard it was for me to survive high school being different like that,” Warring said.She set out to create a community of acceptance.
