Registration open for annual Bluestem PACE Race 5K run/walk

Bluestem PACE, a nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors live well at home, will host its annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 1, at 9 a.m. in McPherson, Kan. Those interested in registering for the PACE Race can do so at bluestemks.org/events. Registration is $30 by Feb. 15 and includes a race t-shirt. After Feb. 15, registration increases to $35.

Turkey Creek Golf Course to have more events this year than ever

McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course has come a long way since it was built in 1990. Turkey Creek Operations Superintendent Jason Buschbom and Program Coordinator Treg Fawl are two credited to making the Golf Course and Clubhouse what they are today, always improving and upgrading.

Rita Mae VonFeldt, 93, longtime resident of Hays, died Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Angel Arms in McPherson. She was born October 12, 1929 in Liebenthal, the daughter of John B. and Josephine (Dechant) Legleiter.

McPherson claims third in Mid America Classic

After making four three-pointers through their first two games of the Mid America Classic and shooting a combined 36.5 percent from the floor, the McPherson offense came to life late Saturday afternoon as they hit 10 triples en route to a 62-39 win over Clearwater in the MAC third-place game.

Roxanne Marie Thomas, 67. passed away Friday evening at her home south east of Lebo with her family gathered around her. She was born May 20,1955 in Moundridge KS to Eldo and Letha Ediger of Inman, KS. She and her older sister, Barbara, and younger brother, Wes, had many happy times on the farm. Roxanne attended Turkey Creek grade school and Inman High School and graduated with class of 1973. She attended Wichita Technical Institute in the Laboratory Assistant Program. She worked a various places across Kansas, most recent being Cotton O’Neil Clinic in Emporia for 31 years, retiring December of 2020. She was a member of the Lebo United Methodist Church. Roxanne loved her family and grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and collecting Fiestaware. Roxanne said she had 9 magical days. #1 Nov 11, 1989 her wedding day to Eldon. #2, the birth of her son, Michael, on Mother’s Day. #3, the birth of her daughter, Jaime. #4 the marriage of Michael to Bethany. #5, the marriage of Jaime to Cody. #6 the birth of grandson, Casen John. #7, the birth of grandson, Gunnar Dale. #8, the birth of granddaughter, Maudie Marie. #9, the birth of grandson, Lane Henry. Roxanne will forever live in the hearts of her husband, Eldon of the home; children Michael (Bethany) Thomas of Lebo, and Jaime (Cody) Muckenthaler of Lebo, Heather McCaleb of Manhattan; grandchildren Kieran Marker, Gunnar Thomas , Lane Thomas, Casen Muckenthaler, and Maudie Muckenthaler; a sister, Barbara (Alan) Jirik of Downer’s Grove, IL and brother Wes (Deede) Ediger of Inman, KS.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Eldo and Letha Ediger, and in-laws Nolan and Deloris Thomas. Be Kind. Love one another. A celebration of Roxanne’s will be held at 10:00 A.M,, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Lebo United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Key west Cemetery, east of Lebo. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M.

Inman outlasts Little River for Burrton Invitational crown

BURRTON, Kansas – It may have been delayed several days, but a familiar champion was crowned in Burrton Wednesday night as the Inman Teutons boys basketball team claimed its second straight Burrton Invitational title by defeating Little River 42-34 in an overtime thriller. Inman’s title defense started last Monday when they knocked host Burrton out of the winners side of the bracket with a 63-27 win over the Chargers. The Teutons then dominated Central Christian 61-14 in the semifinal round last Thursday, but Saturday’s championship game was postponed to the following Wednesday due to winter weather in the area.

McPherson College alum to perform in Lingenfelter Concert Series

Dr. Irvin Wagner and the University of Oklahoma Trombone Choir will perform at McPherson College as part of the Fern Lingenfelter Artist Series on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. in Brown Auditorium. Concert admission is free. Dr. Wagner is a 1959 graduate of McPherson College and former band director.
