Grand Ole Opry stars to bring “the Best of Country, Bluegrass and Gospel This Side of Heaven” (USA Today) to McPherson

Grand Ole Opry Members, 5x GRAMMY Award winners individually, 3x GRAMMY Award nominees collectively, 4x GMA DOVE Award winners and 35x IBMA Awards winners altogether, Dailey & Vincent – Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent – (and their worldclass band) will bring “the best of country, bluegrass, and gospel this side of heaven” (USA Today) to McPherson for a performance at McPherson Opera House on Saturday, January 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m. local time.

Executive Director retiring from McPherson Main Street

McPherson Main Street Executive Director, Ann Engel, has announced her retirement effective May 31, 2023. Engel has served as Executive Director for 15 years, first assuming the position in March of 2008, after 29 years in her family business, Becker Tire of McPherson.

A Green Comet in Kansas

If the skies are clear, and the moon is not shining too brightly, the comet known as C/2022 E3 (ZTF) just might be glowing enough to be seen with the naked eye here in Wellington. Since we live in the northern hemisphere, our best chance of viewing this once-in-a-lifetime event will be between January 12th and February 1, 2023.

Wrestling starts strong in 2023

The start of 2023 was good to the McPherson High School wrestling teams, as the Bullpup boys took home second place and the girls took home sixth place in the teams’ meet in Burlington on Saturday. On the boys’ side, McPherson’s 167 team points was good enough for a second-place finish, which only fell shy of Baldwin’s first-place finish with a team total of 208 points.

Elyria Boys Earn Late Game Win over Canton/Galva

ELYRIA – The Elyria Christian boys opened their 2023 side of the schedule on Friday by hosting cross county rival Canton/Galva and then using a strong fourth quarter to gain a 52-39 win. After Canton/Galva jumped out to an eight-point, 19-11 first quarter lead, Elyria bounced back to outscore Canton/Galva 19-4 in the second quarter and take a seven- point, 30-23 lead as the teams broke for the halftime break.
