Volleyball takes third on cancer awareness day

MCPHERSON – There was much more to the thirdplace finish in the McPherson Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday for the McPherson Bullpups volleyball team, as the event inside the Roundhouse also served as Childhood Cancer Awareness Day by raising funds to combat cancer.

Teuton’s Mikulecky to play ball at KWU

INMAN – On Monday, senior Inman baseball player Brant Mikulecky signed a letter of intent to play baseball in 2023-24 at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. Brant is the son of Matt and Mindy Mikulecky of Inman where Matt is the head baseball coach.

Isolation, face masks are still important when sick with COVID

DEAR DR. ROACH: No wonder COVID-19 doesn’t go away -- people don’t seem to take it seriously anymore. I work with someone who tested positive for COVID, spent one day out of work, and then came back the very next day with “casual” use of a face mask. I work in direct contact with customers for about 30 minutes each. One of them said their spouse tested positive, yet they weren’t even wearing a mask, even though they were exposed.

Kids in crisis

It’s tempting to blame the pandemic for the dizzying rates of mental health concerns among American teens. We are all familiar with the impact Covid is having on our lives, and the disruption it continues to cause in the lives of young people. Kids witnessed vehement disagreements between neighbors, friends, and family over the decisions that had to be made in response to the pandemic, and felt the stress at home as parents faced economic and work changes, all without many of their usual support systems. However, rates of mental illness among children and adolescents have been steadily rising throughout the last decade. In 2019, nearly 20% of deaths in the 10-24 age group were suicides and nearly 16% of high schoolers had made a suicide plan. Even back in 2019, more than one in three teens suffered persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.

Teutons Shut Down Ellinwood 38-0

ELLINWOOD – Friday night, the Inman football team continued to play like the top-ranked team in Class 1A that they are as they went on the road and shut down and shutout Ellinwood 38-0. With the win, the Teutons remain unbeaten at 6-0 as they face another road trip on Friday to Conway Springs.

Little River Buries Herington in 48-0 Homecoming Win

LITTLE RIVER – Celebrating their 2022 homecoming the right way, the Little River football team buried visiting Herington on Friday with a 48-0 shutout victory. Now 5-1 for the season, the Redskins are ranked number four in 8-Man Division I as they prep for a road trip to Pretty Prairie on Friday.
