Going low: Golf team shows early improvement

MCPHERSON – It hasn’t taken long for the Lady Pups golf team to find their footing off the tee, as McPherson High School has taken second place in two out of their last three tournaments, which is a season best for the first-year team.

#1 Ranked Andale Rolls Smoky Valley 57-8

ANDALE – Smoky Valley went to Andale on Friday and found out quickly why they are ranked number one in Class 3A as the Vikings got beat 57-8. Now 2-2 for the season, the Vikings will look to bounce back with a win on Friday when they play host to Cheney who will come into the game 3-1 for the season after thumping Pratt 43-21 this past Friday.

Teutons Pound Sterling 40-0

STERLING – Now ranked number one in Class 1A, the Inman football team proved their worth on Friday on the road at Sterling where they pounded the Black Bears with a 40-0 win. Now 4-0 for the season, the Teutons return to the home field on Friday where they will host Hutchinson Trinity who also enters the game 4-0 after beating Ellinwood 24-0.

Gumm leads Bullpups to win over Circle

MCPHERSON – In a close game that featured two top 10 teams and an undefeated record, the McPherson High School football team turned to senior running back Jaytin Gumm, who chewed up and spit out the Circle defense in the second half en route to a 35-15 McPherson win.

Volleyball gets split on trip to Mulvane

MULVANE, Kansas – Much like the majority of their matches this season, nothing came easy for the McPherson High School volleyball team in their two-set win over Mulvane and three-set loss to Augusta Tuesday evening.

MCPHERSON – Tuesday served as more than a typical weekday tennis tournament win for the McPherson High School girls tennis team. Instead, it was the annual Doug Gayer Classic tournament that honors the late former high school tennis coach.
