It was late in the morning of the last day of the 2022 Pratt County Fair, but the stands were still packed with business representatives and families Saturday when the last lot was led into the 4-H Livestock Premium Auction. As Haley Spitzer walked her late brother Daniel Spitzer’s steer up, she was followed by Spitzer family members and their closest friends. Then all the 4-Hers in attendance (many in #LiveLikeDaniel t-shirts) gathered around the sale ring, and the auctioneer began his sing-song sales chant. Numerous hands flew in the air to buy Daniel Spitzer’s steer, sharing in the recent tragedy that took Spitzer’s life just a few short weeks earlier. The result was a positive boost that no one could have predicted.

Bright future: 16U Bullpups cap season with title

MCPHERSON – It’s not too often when a season can end in a championship two times in three months, but the McPherson Bullpups baseball program accomplished that feet after the 16U summer baseball team defeated the Wichita Raiders 5-3 in the End of Summer baseball tournament Saturday morning.

Allen Edward Boyer

Allen Edward Boyer, 84, of Loveland, CO, passed away in the presence of his family on July 21, 2022. Allen was born on July 8, 1938, to Charles and Winona Boyer in Danbury, NE. After graduating from Solomon High School in 1956 he spent his summer custom cutting wheat and then joined the Army where he became a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After 3 years in the service, he was honorably discharged. In 1965 Allen married his wife of 57 years, Vada Koehn. They raised two children, Tameria Janae (Boyer) Dishman and David Austin Boyer. Allen spent 17 years as a brick and stone mason and then worked for Johns Manville where he retired after 20 years. Allen loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing cards. It was an annual event to meet his brothers and nephews on opening day of pheasant season and spend the day together. In addition to family he was especially close to his friends Charlie Johnson, Loren Boughman and Steve Marquez.

Patricia C. Cheatham, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born October 25, 1937 in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Orlie D. and Hazel (Becker) Becker.
