George Washington Sullivan, IV, 58, of McPherson, KS, passed away June 17, 2023. Arrangements are with Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.
About 150 years ago, back in 1874, many groups were leaving Russia to travel to America. One of those was a group of Swiss Mennonite families who were about to start a new life near Moundridge, Kansas and Freeman South Dakota.

The McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau presented commissioners with the plan for July 4th festivities at Wall Park. The 2023 July 4th Extravaganza at Wall Park begins at 7 p.m.
McPherson Assistant Police Chief Todd Martens and McPherson County Sheriff Jerry Montagne have 65 years combined dedication to the Special Olympics Torch Run. The Law Enforcement Torch Run started in Wichita, in 1981 by then Police Chief Richard La-Munyon who saw a need to raise funds and increase awareness of Special Olympics.
Dale William Mowbray, age 84 of St. Peter, MN, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Benedictine Care Center. A Memorial Service celebrating Dale’s life was held March 24, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Dale was born March 24, 1938 in McPherson, KS to Martin and Vergie (Johnson) Mowbray. He was a 1956 graduate of McPherson High School. He attended Bethany College for a year and went on to graduate from Emporia State College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He took a position with Honeywell in Hopkins, MN, where he met Kay Estesen. In 1963 they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter, MN. Shortly after their marriage, Dale accepted a position at Tel-e-lect Manufacturing Co., beginning a 37-year career there. In 1983 the family moved with the company (later renamed Terex Telelect) to Watertown, SD. After retirement in 2001, Dale and Kay moved to St. Peter, MN, where Dale began a life of volunteering. He worked building Habitat for Humanity homes and served on that board. He was a volunteer driver for Nicollet County, the VA and VINE. He did insurance counseling for the MN River Area Agency on Aging, and most recently did school delivery for the Food Backpack Program. One year he was honored as Nicollet County Volunteer of the Year. Over the years Dale enjoyed membership in the Optimist Club, singing in church choirs and the barbershop chorus, swimming, playing tennis, bridge and cribbage. Dale Mowbray is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kay; son Aaron and daughter Elizabeth (Matt) Gandolfo; grandchildren Andrew (Silvia) and Sawyer Mowbray; other relatives and good friends. EL DORADO, Kansas – Earning a trophy to represent one’s school can be a hard task to accomplish, but the McPherson High School varsity cheer team tripled that feat as the team brought home three trophies in four days at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Cheer Camp hosted by Butler Community College on June 16-19.
