Vikings and Pups put three on podium at boys’ state wrestling

SALINA, Kansas – At the conclusion of 812 wrestling matches in a four-day span, McPherson County racked up six medalists as three of those six came from the McPherson and Smoky Valley boys’ wrestling teams following the class 4A boys state wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Community Foundation to host eighth annual match event

MCPHERSON, KAN------ The McPherson County Community Foundation’s (MCCF) annual matching event enters its ninth year of helping build the endowments of local partnering non-profits. Match Week, formally known as Match Day, will take place during the week of Mar. 6-10. A total of $385,000 was raised during the event last year, a record for MCCF.

College Honors for Fall of 2022

Deans' List at Drake University To be eligible for the Deans' List, students must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the Fall 2022 semester at Drake. To be eligible for the President's List, students must have earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the Fall 2022 semester at Drake.

Area Roundup: Mac County preps for sub-state

It was a busy week for the five of the six area high schools with Little River, Moundridge, Inman and Smoky Valley all closing out their 2022-24 regular seasons in basketball though Canton/Galva got an early start on Class 1A Division I sub-state play.

BARBARA LAURINE MASAR

Barbara Laurine Masar, 76, passed away peacefully in Inman, KS on Feb 8, 2023. Barbara was born June 13, 1946 to Virginia Laurine Davis Fleming and Harold Joseph Fleming in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Barbara grew up in the Dallas, TX area and loved her dog, her dance classes, and her sisters deeply. Barbara attended Ursuline Academy and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, TX. She received her associates degree from Monticello College in Alton, IL. She met her future husband Pat Masar at 2nd base of a softball game while he served in the U.S.A.F. at the Colorado Springs Air Force Base and they were united in marriage March 1, 1969. Pat’s career led them to live overseas in Taiwan (where their sons were born), and Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Their travels enabled them to explore England, Germany, France, Austria, Egypt, Bahrain, Seychelles, Italy, Greece, and Hong Kong. While the Masars lived on the east coast, west coast and midwest of the United States, their greatest love was for the mountains of Colorado, where they spent the majority of the years raising their family. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Davis Miller and Harold Fleming; her younger sister, Jean Davis Fleming Short Pevehouse; and her nephew, Brian Short. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Pat; her children, Patrick Jr (Jennifer) McPherson, KS; Kevin (Christina) Denver, CO; Christine (Clay) Burlington, CO; her 13 grandchildren Cora, Amelia, Margaret, Madison, April, Eve, Joey, Katarina, Tatum, Trenton, Tamlyn, Tobyn, and Tyler; her nephew, Robert Short III (Tina; and her older sister, Marilyn Patrice Fleming of Dallas, TX. Barbara had a sharp wit, a quick tongue, a sweet tooth, and always kept a tidy home and fashionable appearance. Her love for dogs continued into adulthood and she raised several over the years.
