Bellesine sentenced to 22 years for child sex crimes

Joy Bellesine, 40, was sentenced earlier this month to more than 22 years in prison after pleading no contest to multiple charges related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of a child under her care.

According to court documents, Bellesine was arrested on September 19 of last year and charged with several serious offenses. She was accused of conspiring with husband Scott Gravitt to engage in aggravated indecent liberties with a child under 14, conspiracy to commit aggravated criminal sodomy, conspiracy to commit rape, abuse of a child, sexual exploitation of a child, aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, and aggravated child endangerment.

Court records indicate that Bellesine entered into a plea agreement with the State of Kansas on January 17. She pled no contest to one count of aggravated human trafficking for sexual gratification involving a victim under 14, one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated criminal sodomy, and one count of conspiracy to commit rape.

On April 11, court documents show that Bellesine was sentenced to 275 months, minus time served, in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. Bellesine was sentenced to 155 months for the charge of aggravated human trafficking, 61 months for the charge of conspiracy to commit aggravated criminal sodomy, and 59 months for the charge of conspiracy to commit rape. The sentences are to run consecutively.

Scott Gravitt has legal proceedings pending in McPherson and Saline counties. A jury trial is scheduled to take place in June.
