Train expo not derailed by weather

The Third Annual McPherson Model Train Convention and Expo Fundraiser was held this past weekend in spite of the brutal cold temperatures that hit the area.Even though the cold cut attendance by roughly half from last year’s 1,000, event assistant Michael Yates said everyone had a good time.The McPherson Model Train Convention and Expo Fundraiser allows model railroad hobbyists to showcase their displays, connect with other enthusiasts, and for some, even earn a little money.

Canton-Galva teacher one of 2024 Horizon Award winners

Alexis Hattabaugh, Canton Galva Elementary School,is recognized as one of 32 educators from Kansas being recognized for their outstanding teaching skills through the 2024 Kansas Horizon Award program.The 2024 Kansas Horizon Award recipients were recently announced by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE).The educators will be honored at a special ceremony during the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) State Education Conference on Feb.

Debate team wins third title

In the 4A 4 speaker division, McPherson High School’s debate team won its third consecutive state championship under the direction of coach Aaron Schropper.In the two days of the event, Bishop Miege High School lost only two matches, but the Bullpup debate team managed to maintain their title with an undefeated run on Saturday in the state tournament in Tonganoxie.

City approves personnel changes

The City of McPherson has taken the opportunity to reorganize and refocus its efforts as a result of recent departures and role changes in city administration.Among the changes announced last week was the promotion of Richard Miller to the Finance Director position.
