Commissioners discuss spending
There was some contention as to where the money should be spent during the Sales Tax Report section of Tuesday’s City Commission meeting.Interim City Administrator Daniela Rivas presented commissioners with the final sales tax report for the quarter and asked them to transfer $1.8 million into the Fire Station #2 fund.
McPherson County students receive scholarships
Kansas State University Salina Aerospace and Technology Campus is continuing a one-of-a-kind scholarship program that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree while working part-time and gaining valuable on-the-job experience with Salina manufacturing company Great Plains Manufacturing.Eight students from K-State Salina — all working toward one of the campus’s engineering technology degrees — have been announced as the Great Plains Scholars Program recipients for this year.

City seeks grant applicants
The City of McPherson is seeking six applicants for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) intended for housing rehabilitation.The award provides up to $25,000 in funding for owner- and renter-occupied home repair to promote neighborhood revitalization in a designated target area.The eligible homes are situated along Avenue A to the north, South Walnut Street on both sides to the east, West Avenue F to the south if they are not in a flood zone or have a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA), and railroad lines to the west.
