Moundridge farmers earn conservation award

The Flickner Innovation Farm in Moundridge has received its fair share of attention from international research groups, industry representatives, policy makers — even a group of scientists from NASA visited in 2022.Ray and Susan Flickner, owners of the farm, have received a few awards along the way for the work done at the farm - with the latest announced just last week.Ray and Susan Flickner have been selected as the recipients of the 2023 Kansas Leopold Conservation Award.“Farming is a journey, in my opinion,” Ray said in a video produced Sand County Foundation announcing the award.

Purple Heart City ceremony held

McPherson officials and residents joined together to celebrate becoming part of the Purple Heart Trail with a ceremony at the McPherson Community Building on Wednesday, November 15.The ceremony included the signing of the Proclamation and the unveiling of signs that will be placed at every entrance into the community.The ceremony included stories from guest speakers and honored six members of the McPherson community who have received the Purple Heart.The McPherson High School choir performed the national anthem with the McPherson Police Department Color Guard presenting the Colors.The Purple Heart Trail serves as a reminder to travelers that others have paid a heavy price for their freedom by connecting a network of roads, highways, bridges, and memorials that honor Purple Heart recipients.McPherson joins a growing list of cities nationwide on the Purple Heart Trail.

Victim Center partners with Sheriff

The DUI Victims Center of Kansas (DUIVC) met with the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, November 17, 2023, to take part in a holiday memorial drive.The volunteer-run DUIVC aims to raise awareness of the traumatic human consequences of the decision to drive impaired and reduce the impact an impaired driving crash has on victims, survivors, and their families.The DUIVC supplied car magnets for every patrol car in preparation for this Memorial Drive.
