A popular McPherson event, Fireworks with a Fireman was held Thursday evening with a large crowd of children and their families gathering in the 200 block of East Euclid Street. The yearly event, held in conjunction with Hopp’s Sno Shack and Concerts for a Cause, raises awareness of fire safety through instruction in the use of fire detectors and fire extinguishers, as well as through training in the safe use of fireworks and a fire demonstration by the McPherson Fire Department.
The McPherson County Commission will not meet this week due to the July 4th holiday. The commission will meet next on July 10 at 9 a.m. in the first-floor conference room of the County Building located at 122 W. Marlin St.
The 2023 “To the Stars: Kansas Business Awards” have begun accepting nominations, according to the Kansas Department of Commerce. The yearly awards program honors businesses and people from all around Kansas for the contributions they make to their local economies and communities.
High school students from across the State of Kansas participated in the 85th session of the American Legion Boys State of Kansas (ALBSK), held June 4-10 at Kansas State University in Manhattan. This was the 31st consecutive year the Kansas Boys State program was held at K-State.

Summer is a great time in Kansas. As Kansans we can get out, take walks, play ball, spend time with friends and neighbors and find out what’s been going on. McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) has been out in the community too, working to collect ideas, priorities, and information about our communities. Starting in March we began a campaign to solicit opinions and priorities from our county and communities; Inman, Canton, Marquette just to name a few.
McPherson is a town that takes care of each other. Its residents are shining examples of good neighbors.
