Resurfacing project on U.S. 56 to begin
The Kansas Department of Transportation has begun a resurfacing project on about 13 miles of U.S. 56 in McPherson County. A mill and overlay on U.S. 56 will occur from the K-153/U.S. 56 junction and continue west to the Rice/McPherson County line. During construction, flaggers and a pilot car will direct one lane of traffic through the work zone. Drivers should be prepared for a delay of up to 15 minutes and plan extra time in their travel schedules. Pearson Construction LLC. of Wichita is the prime contractor for this $4.7 million project which is scheduled for completion by September, weather permitting. KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. On Friday, June2, officers from McPherson Police and Sheriff Departments participated alongside McPherson County Special Olympics Athletes for the 2022 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. The run started at Domino’s Pizza on the corner of Main St.
Fire Department to install Safe Haven Baby Box
After responding to an Amber Alert in 2008 that turned into a search and rescue for a baby, McPherson Fire Chief TJ Wyssman was determined to make sure parents had options. The baby from that call was found by a Police Officer in a polycart in McPherson.
Carr becomes Stork Club member
On May 16th, shortly before 4 a.m. night shift dispatch supervisor, Jolana Carr, answered a call in which a man simply said, “We’re having a baby.” The parents were trying to get to Salina, but the baby had other ideas.
Black Kettle Festival and Car Show winners announced
Saturday started out with sunny weather for the 19th Annual Black Kettle Festival and Car Show drawing participants from across the state. Thunderstorms rolled through before the awards were announced, causing the presentation to be delayed.
KSN Summer Road Trip coming to McPherson
Joni Regnier and Wayne Burns Invited McPherson City Commissioners and Mayor Tom Brown to attend the KSN-TV Summer Road Trip event at McPherson Water Park on June 12. The KSN News crew will be visiting towns around the state June 12-16.
Kids Art Camp scheduled
The McPherson Arts Alliance is hosting two sessions for Kids’ Art Camp at the Mary Anderson Art Center in the McPherson Opera House. The first session is for children in first through third grade June 12-16.
Esping finds ‘home’ at MMS
Inge Esping began her career at MMS in 2004, starting at McPherson Middle School (MMS). 18 years later, she is now Principal at that same school.
