McPherson County Sherriff Jerry Montagne had a busy week leading up to Veterans Day. On Nov. 10, Sherriff Montagne along with other McPherson County Veterans, Shaun Carlson, Dan Hervey, and Bob Cox visited Moundridge Elementary School in honor of Veterans Day According to Moundridge Elementary School Principal, Rebecca Khosravipour, each of the men shared about their years of service and the branch of military they served with the students. “Our students really enjoyed meeting and learning from them,” Principal Khosravipour said. In addition to Moundridge Elementary School, Sherriff Montagne also visited Elyria Christian School to share about Veterans Day. On Nov. 11, Sherriff Montagne was a guest speaker for the Canton Galva Jr/Sr High School Veterans Day event, hosted by Canton Galva Honor Society. He spoke about Veterans Day, his time in the service and his father’s time serving in WWII. Another event Sherriff Montagne took part of the week of Veterans Day was visiting the students at Windom Elementary School to talk about Stranger Danger and personal safety.

Solo hip hop artist shares past and present ambitions Alternative hip hop artist Edward Matthew Monday, who goes by Monday 7E professionally, has been known for his originality in the music industry since 2003, drawing from rap, pop, jazz and even some classical music for inspiration, but ultimately keeps true to himself as an artist and creator.

On Nov. 2 it was announced by the Swedish Heritage Museum that two grants from the McPherson County Community Foundation will be going toward the museum to make critical repairs to the Lindsborg Old Mill.

Last Tuesday, City of McPherson department heads met in the Community Building with representatives of Farmers Alliance to discuss further strategic planning after past disagreements and troubles with employee turnover. The city members are getting together to work on communication and problem solving as they participate in the 2022 Fall Retreat workshops as part of their 5-year Strategic Plan that started in 2020.

Ten-year-old Adriana Guajardo from St Joseph Catholic School in McPherson was one of three north-central Kansas regional winners out of 18 counties for the 2022 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest.

Patriotic pride was in the chilly air on Nov. 11 and even though the Veterans Day Parade was canceled due to the temperature, that didn’t stop the large crowd at the Veterans Day Ceremony, held in the Park Department Building at 11 a.m.

For 27 years, a non-profit organization has been putting on a community dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas at the McPherson Community Building. These meals are welcome to the public.
