The month of October is Principal Appreciation month for the education system in Kansas. Throughout the month, the McPherson Sentinel will be giving recognition to principals and other leaders from different towns throughout McPherson County. ww Today we have two spotlights: From St. Joseph Catholic School, Principal Peggy Bahr and from Washington Elementary School, Principal Jill Beam. Both Principal Bahr and Principal Beam have served their schools in McPherson for over a decade.

Hospitality among the arts is a huge driving force for Irene Nielsen, owner of Casual Corner Tea Room inside the Main Street Galleria in Lindsborg. Nielsen has enjoyed teas since 1995.
The McPherson Opera House Company Board of Directors is excited to announce that Karissa Hoffman has been named as the new Executive Director for the McPherson Opera House. Hoffman is from Marquette and currently resides in McPherson with her husband and two little girls. Hoffman graduated from Central Christian College with a degree in Organizational Leadership. For the last six years, Hoffman has worked in development within higher education, including positions with Central Christian College, Wichita State University, and Bethany College.
The month of September was National Hunger Action Month and for the fifth year, 24/7 Travel Store had their Food Bank Fill-Up fundraiser to support food banks across Kansas. All ten stores from nine Kansas Counties participated in the initiative.
Every fall in the month of October, the Elyria Christian School has a BBQ Dinner provided by faculty, parents, and family members of Elyria Christian. This year, the BBQ event landed on Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the McPherson County 4-H Building at 710 Woodside.
