Rob Mackey is about to end what he calls "the greatest professional blessing I’ve ever had.” The United Way of McPherson County Executive Director announced this week his retirement — effective Feb. 28, 2022 — bringing and end a four years term at the helm.

MCPHERSON — Roosevelt Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes Nov. 30, a precautionary measure by the McPherson Police Department as they activated a search warrant near the school.

A pair of Christmas concerts by the McPherson Community Brass Choir are coming to the area — with concerts in Goessel and Peabody on the calendar. “We do it for the love of music,” said Jerry Toews, director of the McPherson Community Brass Choir.

WICHITA — Regulators on the state and federal level see trouble for ratepayers in the growing relationship between the state’s largest electric utility and one of its investors. Coyotes are on the prowl in Kansas, but mainly in rural areas. “When we look at abundance trends, the population of coyotes has increased three-fold since the fur market crashed in the late 1980s,” Drew Ricketts, a wildlife management specialist with K-State Research and Extension, said in a release.
