McPherson’s two hometown college basketball teams took to the hardwood last Tuesday to decide who would claim ownership of the Mayor’s Cup, and Central Christian delivered two wins as the Tiger women won 59-58 and the Tiger men won 88-87.Men:Following a season-opening 80-77 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday, November 1 for McPherson and 2-0 start to the season for Central Christian (79-67 win over Tabor and a 90-71 win over Sterling), the two teams met on the hardwood last Tuesday to settle the battle for the Mayor’s Cup.McPherson owned a two-game winning streak over Central Christian heading into last Tuesday’s matchup after an 85-65 win in 2022 and a 79-65 win in 2023, but the Tigers earned their first win over the Bulldogs since 2018 (a 68-60 victory) by edging out a one-point 88-87 victory inside of Jerry Alexander Arena.The largest lead in the first half was owned by McPherson at a nine-point 21-12 advantage Collin Storr connected on a two-pointer with 13 minutes and 20 seconds left before half.
The community is invited to honor and celebrate local veterans at the Veterans Appreciation Program, scheduled for November 11th at 7:00 p.m.
The 2024 fall sports season is slowly coming to a close and with the exception of the Little River football team most of the six area small schools have finished.Little River is still alive in the 8-man division I football playoff after going on the road Friday to Lincoln and scoring a two-point 42-40 victory.

HESSTON, Kansas – Three years is all it took for a golf team that had barely touched clubs to become trophy winners at state, as the McPherson High School girls golf team snagged third place at Hesston Golf Course on Tuesday while placing two inside of the top 20 individually.Three years ago marked the inception of the McPherson girls golf program, and it was headlined by a pair of freshmen stars and a roster where many of its players had never even picked up a golf club before.On Tuesday, October 22, those two freshmen stars, who are now juniors, blossomed into two of the top players in class 4A as Brodie Kuhn and Andi Buschbom led the Lady Pups to a two-day score of 727 to edge out a third-place finish by two strokes and give McPherson its first state plaque in its young history.“Looking back at the big picture of things, I’m extremely proud.
