Youth rodeo begins 2025 season

CANTON, Kansas – As of the weekend, April 5-6, the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA), which included 22 rodeo athletes from the McPherson County area, began their 2025 season with a pair of rodeos held at Tom Miller Arena in Canton on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6. It was the first of four rodeo events scheduled before the final rodeo on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10.

Ball possession woes plague Lady Pups in tournament final

Ball possession errors and a second-half surge hampered the McPherson High School girls soccer team’s chances at winning a championship on Friday, but the Lady Pups still walk away from the 19th annual McPherson Invitational with a second-place medal despite falling 5-0 to Maize South. McPherson went into Friday’s championship match with plenty of momentum after starting the tournament off with an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Wichita Collegiate on Monday and a 4-2 win over Topeka in the semifinals on Tuesday.
