Not even a man with 24 years of high school softball coaching experience had witnessed a game like Friday night’s, as the McPherson High School softball team stayed undefeated by winning an 18-inning marathon 3-2 over two-time defending state champion Wamego. Leading McPherson into the heavyweight matchup was first-year coach Daryl Hoelting, who spent the past 24 years of his high school coaching career at Salina South and Salina-Sacred Heart.
The 2025 edition of the McPherson County All Schools Day Button Hunt begins Friday. As in past years, the button hunt involves two separate hunts including a physical hunt for a medallion featuring this year's All Schools Day Button, and a virtual hunt where participants will guess a location based on clues provided.
