McPherson, KS-Carolyn Sue Bishop, 86, of Hesston, KS, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Pine Village, Moundridge, KS, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Chrystle Clara (Walker) and William Raymond Keyes. Carolyn attended Wellington grade school and graduated from Wellington (KS) High School in 1955. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church, Wichita,
Guy Rondell Gerard was born in Salina, Kansas to Helen Lorriane Gans and Donald Edward Gerard on February 3, 1955. His brother Mark preceded his birth by four years. Guy started his higher education at McPherson High School where he excelled in sports and academics. This along with his Eagle Scout badge contributed to securing a spot at the Coast Guard Academy in May 1973 in New London Connecticut. That summer was spent sailing on the Coast Guard flagship “The Bark Eagle” to Europe. His competitive nature drove him to compete for a highly sought after degree in oceanography. He graduated in May 1977, packed his bags, and set off for his first assignment in Ketchikan, Alaska. At this time, he got engaged to Laura C Basile whom he later married. A buoy ender, “The Laurel”, was his home for the next year where he got to revisit his past dream of becoming a Forest Ranger; hiking, fishing and communing with nature. During his year in Alaska, he applied for flight school staus and was accepted for a class date of January 2, 1979 at Pensacola, Florida Naval Air Station. He flew in the Coast Guard for the next 10 years on the C130 and Falcon Jet; first in Elizabeth City North Carolina and second in Mobile Alabama where he was chosen among many to head up the education and training for the new jet, “The Falcon”, acquired by the Coast Guard to assist the C130 fleet in search and rescue missions as well as drug enforcement. One of these search and rescue missions led to recommendation by Guy and his crew to start a swimmers in the water program to save more lives. The program was later implemented and called Rescue Swimmers and has been adapted for a movie starring Kevin Costner called The Guardian. Guy continued with the Coast Guard in the reserves, retiring with 20 years in. In March of 1984 Guy decided to change careers and joined the Delta Airlines team where he thrived flying international for thirty two years, retiring as a captain on February 3, 2020. At thi
Dale William Mowbray, age 84 of St. Peter, MN, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Benedictine Care Center. A Memorial Service celebrating Dale’s life was held March 24, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Dale was born March 24, 1938 in McPherson, KS to Martin and Vergie (Johnson) Mowbray. He was a 1956 graduate of McPherson High School. He attended Bethany College for a year and went on to graduate from Emporia State College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He took a position with Honeywell in Hopkins, MN, where he met Kay Estesen. In 1963 they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter, MN. Shortly after their marriage, Dale accepted a position at Tel-e-lect Manufacturing Co., beginning a 37-year career there. In 1983 the family moved with the company (later renamed Terex Telelect) to Watertown, SD. After retirement in 2001, Dale and Kay moved to St. Peter, MN, where Dale began a life of volunteering. He worked building Habitat for Humanity homes and served on that board. He was a volunteer driver for Nicollet County, the VA and VINE. He did insurance counseling for the MN River Area Agency on Aging, and most recently did school delivery for the Food Backpack Program. One year he was honored as Nicollet County Volunteer of the Year. Over the years Dale enjoyed membership in the Optimist Club, singing in church choirs and the barbershop chorus, swimming, playing tennis, bridge and cribbage. Dale Mowbray is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kay; son Aaron and daughter Elizabeth (Matt) Gandolfo; grandchildren Andrew (Silvia) and Sawyer Mowbray; other relatives and good friends. Sandra Louise (Kindle) Larson, 80, of rural Marquette, died peacefully at home Wednesday, June 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 16, 1942 in Warsaw, MO, Sandra was the second child of James A. Kindle and Leola E. (Bailey) Kindle. Sandy attended school in Warsaw, graduating from Warsaw High School in 1960. Following high school, Sandy worked for E.C. Bishop’s Gun Stock Company in Warsaw for ten years before moving to Kansas City and taking a job at Black, Sivalls, & Bryson, and then Montgomery Wards. It was at a Montgomery Ward’s Christmas party where she met Merlyn (Merle) Larson.

Phyllis Ann Koenig, 90, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of Kansas City and Eureka, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. Phyllis was a retired hospital administrator for Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka. Phyllis was born on December 8, 1932, in Poplar Bluff, MO, the daughter of Robert Rezin and Hettie Jane (Simmons) Wood. She graduated high school from Poplar Bluff, MO. On October 23, 1954, Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Dean Koenig in Poplar Bluff. This union was blessed with three children, Cheryl, Steve, and Judy. Survivors include: her loving husband of 68 years, Richard Koenig; three children, Cheryl (Galen) Swisher of Kula, HI, Steve (Connie) Koenig of McPherson, KS, and Judy (Robert) Sanders of Evans, GA; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Wood, Virginia Davison, and Kenneth Wood; and a great-grandson, Hendrix Koenig. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Ron Pracht officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Cedars Special Care Unit in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
