ROWENA ARLENE TURNER

Rowena Arlene Turner, 96, passed away April 20, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born December 22, 1926, in Neosho Falls, KS, the daughter of Leo and Myrtle Brammer Skinner. She was a school secretary but found her true passion teaching stained glass. She enjoyed that for over 20 years. She was a member of Garden City Methodist Church. While residing in Inman, she enjoyed attending services at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. Rowena married Melvin Turner on December 28, 1943, in Rocky Ford, CO. He passed away in 2003. Survivors include daughter, Melva (James) Barlow, Inman, KS; a sister, Carol (Bill) Manion, Topeka, KS; grandchildren, J. Scott (Janet) Barlow, Mark (Dorothy) Baier, Mel (Ashley) Baier, Ryan (Chevese) Turner, and Lindsay Turner; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Linda Baier; one son, Michael Turner; one sister; three brothers; and one grandchild, Sean Barlow. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Inman Funeral Home, Inman, KS. A private family burial will be held at a later date. VANESSA J. LEITE

Vanessa J. Leite, PhD., passed away on April 7, 2023, after a short, yet courageous, battle with cancer. Vanessa was born on May 16, 1978, to Armin and Elizabeth (Unruh) Klassen in Filadelfia, Paraguay. A Celebration of Life is planned for May 28, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Cru Winery in Madera, CA. A second Celebration of Life will be on June 4, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Grace Hill Winery in Whitewater, KS.

ANTON “TONY” KLASSEN

Anton “Tony” Klassen, 81, of Moundridge, Kansas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be with the Lord on April 11, 2023. Born in Goessel, KS, on March 3rd, 1942, to Christoph Klassen and Marie (Boese) Klassen, Anton was the third child of four brothers, and was able to enjoy growing up with his siblings, Harold, Eldon, and Ruben on a small farm South of Goessel Kansas. The family had a strong Mennonite belief and as part of his personal faith, Anton was baptized on May 20th, 1956, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He would continue to be a devout Christian at Eden Mennonite Church for the remainder of his life. Anton is survived by his son, Scott and Suzanne, Park City, KS; grandson, Cade and Melissa and great-grandson, Easton, Olathe, KS; grandson, Calen, Wichita, KS; brother, Eldon and Darlene, Wichita, KS; brother, Ruben and Analene, Goessel, KS; brother-inlaw, Larry and Betty Krehbiel, Moundridge, KS; sister-in-law, Kay and Gib Burgan, Moundridge, KS; sister-in-law, Maxine Schrag, Moundridge, KS; and countless nieces and nephews. Anton was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy (Krehbiel) Klassen; parents, Christoph and Marie (Boese) Klassen; and his brother, Harold Klassen. A viewing and memorial service will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Moundridge Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge at 10 a.m., Monday, April 17 with the burial following at the church cemetery. A fellowship meal will be immediately following the funeral in the church fellowship hall. BROCK ALLEN LUTY PHD

Brock Allen Luty PhD, 58, of Poway, CA, passed away on April 3, 2023, surrounded by his wife and daughters at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla due to complications that arose after open heart surgery. Brock was born November 19, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri and was adopted into the welcoming home of Robert and Virginia Luty of McPherson Kansas. He was joined soon after by brother Jeff and sister Denise and together they became a very loving and close family. He was an inquisitive child that was known to take things apart to figure out how they worked although not always getting them back together again. Throughout his middle and high school years, Brock was active in sports, almost always had at least one job, loved to ride his motorcycle and played the first Atari games. His interest in computers and programing was strong from the very beginning and his first Macintosh 512K still sits in his office at home. His family was active in the First Christian Church and have many stories of the youth group activities and the closeness of those friends. It was at a youth group meeting that he met his future wife Jo Strobel who attended while visiting her sister during the summer. He spent most of his 1st period electronics class his senior year writing her letters and their friendship and love continued to grow throughout college even though she attended rival KU. Brock attended Kansas State University and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He developed strong friendships during pledge training that continue to this day. His return to KSU his sophomore year was delayed after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Radiation therapy put his cancer into remission, and he was able to return to complete his chemical engineering degree in 1987. He became interested in computational methods for simulating biochemical systems and studied under Dr. Andy McCammon at the University of Houston.
