COLBY – With a young wrestling team, McPherson was going to be tested on Friday and Saturday in the Colby Invitational and they passed many tests and struggled in others as they finished 4-3 in duals to place 8th overall in the team standings.
MOUNDRIDGE – After playing nose-to-nose for sixteen minutes, a strong second half propelled the Little River girls to a 14-point, 45-31, road win over Moundridge on Tuesday. Both teams played a grind it out, nose-to-nose, game in the first quarter leaving the game tied at 10-10 before Little River was able to chip out a threepoint halftime advantage.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Las Vegas Raiders were last seen in Kansas City taking a victory lap around Arrowhead Stadium in their team buses, and they decided it was wise to stomp on the Chiefs’ logo at midfield shortly before kickoff Sunday. They probably regret both of those ideas.
LAWRENCE — The students who camped out all week at Allen Fieldhouse, they were on Christian Braun’s mind Saturday after Kansas men’s basketball’s 102-65 shellacking of rival Missouri. The junior guard had just been talking about how he hadn’t felt that amount of passion inside an arena from a crowd in a long time.
The Newton High School boys’ basketball team didn’t have the size or physical strength that rival McPherson showed. The Railers also struggled with turnovers and rebounding, but Newton did show some shooting touches in a 68-64 overtime loss to the Bullpups.
GOESSEL – Playing for the second time in two days and third time in five, the Little River boys and girls basketball team showed feast and famine on Tuesday as they split a pair of games with Goessel in the their second round matchup for the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
The Newton High School girls’ basketball team had McPherson on its heels for the first half, and despite being shut out in the third quarter, was in the game before a Bullpup run in the fourth spilled the Railers 49-26 Tuesday at Ravenscroft Gym.
LINDSBORG – Helped by the onetwo punch in the paint of Breanna Priddy and Adrian Hazelwood, the Lady Vikings of Smoky Valley held off a valiant rally by Southeast of Saline at home on Tuesday to earn a six-point, 53-47 victory while the Viking boys got behind early and could catch up in a 64-51 loss.
