A one year hiatus of not winning a championship took place last season after the McPherson High School baseball team won class 4A state titles in 2022 and 2023, but the Bullpups look to be back in the state title hunt in 2025 as eight seniors return to the lineup. Although McPherson’s chances at taking home a third straight state title ended with a 3-1 loss to Rose Hill in the regional championship game, the Bullpups still managed to finish last season with a 20-8 record.

A new era was paired with a new softball season last Tuesday, and with it came four wins as the McPherson High School softball team started Daryl Hoelting’s first year at the helm with doubleheader sweeps over Valley Center and Augusta.

The pitch was once again occupied beginning Tuesday as the McPherson High School soccer team opened its season with an 8-0 win over Salina Central, but a late arrival to Thursday’s home-opener against Andover Central resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Lady Pups. Coming off a third-place finish at state last season, McPherson started its 2025 campaign with an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Salina Central on Tuesday, March 25.

Following a fifth-place finish at state a year ago, the McPherson High School boys tennis team returns two of its top players from that team as the Bullpups look to continue their string of success.

After a third-place finish at state a year ago, the McPherson High School girls soccer team is prepared to reach new heights this season as seven starters return to a star-studded roster.

Year number two under head coach John Montgomery appears to be a promising one for the McPherson High School track and field teams, as the Bullpups return six state qualifiers for the 2025 season.
