Bullpup XC goes top five in final regular season meet

EL DORADO, Kansas – Thirteen Bullpups made the trip to this past Saturday’s cross country meet in El Dorado at Bluestem Point and eight of those runners came away with medals, as the McPherson boys placed second as a team and the McPherson girls placed fourth.The torrid stretch by the McPherson cross country teams was continued this past weekend at El Dorado, where the Bullpup boys and girls cross country teams earned top five-five finishes in their final meet of the regular season.Out of the total 13 varsity runners that made the trip to Bluestem Point, eight came away with medals with three coming from the girls’ side and the remaining five coming from the boys.There were 52 total runners on the varsity boys’ side of the meet, and five Bullpups managed to get into medal position.

Lady Pup golf back in state for second time in three years

For a second time in its three-year existence, the McPherson High School girls golf team is making a return trip to the class 4A state tournament following an elite regional performance at Turkey Creek Golf Course where an individual title and second-place trophy was won by the Lady Pups.In their inaugural season, McPherson turned a roster that had barely picked up a golf club into state contenders.

Lady Pup tennis punches ticket to state

State appearances and the McPherson High School girls tennis team added another chapter to its rich history on Saturday as the entire Lady Pups varsity roster qualified for the class 4A state tournament while picking up a first-place finish as a team at regionals.Saturday marked the second straight season that McPherson claimed its regional title and qualified all six varsity players for state.

Area roundup: Postseason play approaches for county schools

It was a busy week for the six McPherson County area smaller schools as Little River continued to work toward a three-peat in volleyball with a championship at the Wheat State League Tournament, while the Inman spikers also ranked first again in Class 2A.In football, Canton/Galva’s youthful group were humbled again, Little River by two at home, Moundridge staved off defeat to remain unbeaten while Smoky Valley and Inman both suffered humbling losses.Here is an overview of the six-county area smaller schools in Canton/Galva, Elyria Christian, Inman, Little River, Moundridge, and Smoky Valley:CANTON/GALVA EAGLES:FOOTBALL – On Friday, the youthful Eagle football team took a thumping at the hands of Central Plains, 46-0.CROSS COUNTRY – At the Goessel Invitational on Thursday, Faith McMannis continued to have a solid year running for the Lady Eagles as she place twelfth with a season best run of 23:24.41 while Jaycob Dieker finished seventeenth in the 5K boys run and Garrett Silsby ran thirty-third.

Maturity shines for Bullpups in split week

A physical and chippy Tuesday night soccer match between McPherson and Rose Hill saw a plethora of penalties and yellow cards dished out throughout the 80 minutes of game time, but the Bullpups remain close to a breakthrough despite falling 2-1 to the Rockets.McPherson’s last outing came on Friday, September 27 when they lost 2-0 to 5A’s Newton on the road as the Bullpups dealt with illness on the team.
