Big second half gives Bullpups win over Rockets

ROSE HILL, Kansas – For the first time this season the McPherson High School football team has entered the above .500 club, as a strong second half from the Bullpups propelled them to their third victory of the season in a 35-26 win over Rose Hill Friday night.Heading into the game, McPherson held a 2-2 record with wins over Circle (28-14) and Winfield (29-23/OT), and losses to Great Bend (28-6) and Chanute (27-14).

Bullpup XC places three in top five at Newton

NEWTON, Kansas – Consistency continued to be the mantra for the McPherson High School track and field teams following Saturday’s meet at Newton’s Centennial Park, as three top-five finishes were turned in by the Bullpups.Throughout the 2024 season, McPherson has been anchored by a trio of runners – Caleb Muehler and Ethan Elder for the boys and Lexi Patterson for the girls.

Lady Pups take second at league tournament

Fall sports postseason play is officially upon McPherson High School, as the girls tennis team took second place at the AVCTL tournament by placing all six Lady Pups inside of the top five to take second place as a team.This year’s AVCTL tournament, which consisted of eight teams (McPherson, Wichita Collegiate, El Dorado, Circle, Buhler, Wellington, Winfield and Augusta), was played at the home tennis courts of McPherson just outside of the high school.With a home crowd at their side, the Lady Pups did not disappoint as all players reached the semifinals before settling for three third place finishes and a fourth-place finish.“What an unbelievable day for tennis.

Bulldogs snap KWU skid with fifth straight win

A nine-game losing streak to one of NAIA’s most consistent programs was snapped Saturday afternoon for the McPherson College football team following a 42-13 victory over Kansas Wesleyan, but the program-defining win has actually been in the making since 2006.Eighteen years ago, current McPherson head coach Jeremiah Fiscus was suited up in the Bulldog uniform as he began his first season as a player for McPherson.

Area roundup: Pair of volleyball teams earn top status

Entering last week, the McPherson area smaller schools had a pair of top ranked volleyball teams with another in the top ten of their class while on the gridiron, two teams ranked in the top ten of their class.Both the Little River and Inman volleyball teams were ranked number one entering last weeks schedules, with the Lady Redskins ranked tops in Class 1A Division I and the Lady Teutons ranked number one in Class 2A.

Bullpups derailed by Newton with second half burst

NEWTON, Kansas – More building blocks were put in place Thursday evening as the McPherson High School boys soccer team clashed against 5A’s Newton on the road, but 90 seconds of soccer plagued the Bullpups once again in a 2-0 loss.McPherson came into Thursday evening’s matchup with a 4-4 record after taking down Buhler 3-0 two days prior on Tuesday, but the Bullpups’ record could’ve easily been at 6-2 if it weren’t for a pair of games where 90 seconds turned out to be their achiles heel.On September 16, a 2-0 loss to Wichita Classical was dictated by a goal by the Saints in the game’s opening 90 seconds.
