Eleven downtown McPherson businesses have come up with a new word to define their upcoming Valentine’s Day event.
“Shopolate — defined as shopping while eating chocolate” will be the theme of the evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, when 50 ticket holders will get to sample chocolate delights and exclusive deals at the participating locations.
At the end of the evening, after getting their ticket stamped at all eleven locations, completed tickets will be entered into a drawing for a prize package full of things to do with your Valentine, be it a spouse, partner, family member or a best friend.
Tickets are $10 each and are available at McPherson Main Street, 306 N. Main St., or by calling 620-241-7430 for more information.
One of the goals of McPherson Main Street is to continue to raise awareness of the products and services that are available right here in McPherson, and having extended evening hours and special activities is an ongoing part of their plan.
“Building up the first Thursday each month has been an ongoing, uphill battle of getting locals and visitors to get into the habit of dining and shopping, or participating in an activity each month,” said Executive Director Ann Engel. “Working with a smaller population and fewer funds than other larger cities has also been a challenge.”
By limiting the number of tickets sold to only 50, they feel that they can keep the out-of-pocket expense to each business to a minimum. She also encourages the community to help support the local businesses that are always being asked to sponsor local activities by buying a ticket and attending this event, as well as watching for upcoming activities like the Ulster Project Irish Meal in March.
