The Ledell reunion is held yearly to gather the descendants of three Ledell families and their relatives.
In researching information, oral and written histories often are not in complete agreement. One of the three brothers, from whom most of the relatives are directly related, was B. A. Ledell.
However, in many places he is referred to as Bengt Alfred, B. Alfred, Bengt, or simply Alfred. His wife’s name is spelled two different ways in many documents — Johanna or Johannah. Since her Swedish immigration (dismissal) paper has the spelling “Johanna,” that connotation will be used in the future by the historian.
On July 24, the Ledell family reunion was held at the United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, McPherson, with the Agnes (Ledell) and Franklin Schafer families serving as hosts. Eighty were in attendance.
President Ron Paulseen conducted the news gathering session. Ron Hazelton will serve as president in 2017 and Bertil Ledell was elected vice-president. Others contributing are Rose Marie Wallen and Jane Ledell as those that chronicle memories through scrapbooks; Sharon Ledell and Janet Monson, shared duties of historian and secretary; and Judy Ledell, videographer.
Special recognition was given to the Omaha contingency who traveled the farthest; Wayne Schafer, the oldest at age 89; and, Brann Paulseen, the youngest at one year old.
Pearl Sandahl was one of thirty granddaughters and grandsons of B. A. and Johanna Ledell. Pearl embroidered many counted thread cross-stitch pictures and decorative objects and amassed a large collection of costume jewelry.
Both collections were distributed at the reunion. In addition, family photos collected by the Sandahl family were dispensed.
The next reunion will be July 23, 2017 at the home of Ron and Jenny Paulseen, McPherson.
