McPherson County Extension will host the Annual Pre-Plant Wheat School at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 16. It will take place at the First United Methodist Church located at 1200 E. Kansas Avenue, McPherson.

The meeting will kick off with a free barbecue at 6:30 p.m. with the program following at 7:15 p.m. Featured presenters will be Dr. Allan Fritz, Kansas State Wheat Breeder, and Dr. Stewart Duncan, Kansas State Agronomist. Topics covered will be 2016 Wheat Plot Results and Varieties, and a discussion comparing 10 inch verses 7 inch drills.

An additional program will be offered for spouses, titled "What to do with all those old feed sacks?" It will be presented by Elizabeth Gatz, the Sumner County Family and Consumer Science Agent. She will demonstrate ways to reuse those feed sacks to create grocery bags, re-upholster furniture, and various other craft options.
