On National S’mores Day, Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland was pleased to announce there will be a new Girl Scout S’mores Cookie added to the cookie lineup in 2017, the year Girl Scouts across the country will celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies.
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland’s new S’mores cookie will be a crispy graham cookie double-dipped in a crème icing and finished with a chocolatey coating. The new S’mores cookie, which will be available Feb. 11 through March 19, 2017, during Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland’s Cookie Sale, is vegan and is free of artificial colors, preservatives and partially hydrogenated oils. The last new Girl Scout Cookies added to the lineup were the gluten-free Trios, introduced in 2015. The money earned through Girl Scout Cookie sales stays in Kansas, supporting girl-led adventures and community service projects across the state.
The tradition of making s’mores in the outdoors is part of Girl Scout history. The recipe for a s’more dates back to the 1925 Girl Scout Leader magazine and the 1927 Girl Scouts of the USA handbook, “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts,” which featured a “Some More” recipe.
Council staff will be at the National S’mores Day events to help girls sign up for Girl Scouts and to talk to those who are interested in making a difference in their community. There are volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule, and the Girl Scout Volunteer Toolkit has resources that make it easy to be a Girl Scout leader.
