McPherson Fire Department performed annual training Tuesday on how to direct and work with helicopters during an emergency. Firefighters reviewed how to guide pilots to a landing zone and alert them for any possible hazards, as well as how to shut down an aircraft's battery or fuel if the aircraft has an emergency or crash landing. They also reviewed how to safely approach a helicopter. Later, they practiced guiding a helicopter to a landing zone, and also rode in the helicopter to get a better understanding of what pilots see while flying.
