Former McPherson High soccer standout Nick Torres has one final year wearing McPherson red and white.

Torres graduated from McPherson High School in 2013, and signed to play for Head Coach Doug Quint at McPherson College for the next four years.

Torres has had a superb three years of college soccer so far, and is looking to leave his dent on the program in 2016. Torres has 20 goals and 11 assists for his college career, and was named All-Conference Second Team his sophomore year.

Along with Torres, sophomore Tyler Minney and senior Brayam De La Cruz made the 2016 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Men’s Soccer Preseason Team.

Minney, a resident of Stewkley, England was the lone representative on the first team, while Torres and Cruz were named to the second team.

The 20 man preseason team consists of 15 seniors, four juniors and one sophomore — Minney.

If the preseason team is any indication of how the KCAC is going to go down, everyone may be chasing Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Eagles had 7 of the 20 members, including six on the first team. OKWU ran away with the conference last season, and with the talent and experience returning from last season, they might do so again.

Back on Aug. 5 when the coaches preseason poll was released, Oklahoma Wesleyan secured 10 of the 11 first place votes, with the Bulldogs stealing the other one. Kansas Wesleyan and Friends are two other schools to keep an eye out for, but if anyone is going to de-thrown the defending champs, the coaches believe it will be McPherson.

The Bulldogs will play their annual alumni game on Aug. 20, and begin actual play on Aug. 27 at home against Mid-America Christian University.
