On Monday, the McPherson County Commission recognized Chanda Jumet for her assistance in delivering a baby.

Jumet, an emergency dispatcher, helped a woman deliver her baby over the phone. This act earned her a place in the Stork Club, a group of emergency dispatchers who have given instructions on how to deliver babies during calls.

Jumet is the first dispatcher in McPherson County to join the club since its formation.

Planning and zoning

The commissioners voted to vacate a half mile of Winchester Road between 18th and 19th Avenues. The stretch includes a bridge that will be closed by Saline County due to lack of maintenance.

They also approved Gary Frownfeller, Gary Huxman and Jim Leach as members of the Planning and Zoning board, which makes recommendations on zoning requests and permits. They will serve for three years.

County attorney

Torrance Parkins, county attorney, requested the commissioners approve a special prosecutor for a case involving a defendant whom Parkins has previously represented. The request was approved.

Industrial development

The commissioners approved $25,000 for a McPherson Industrial Development Corporation proposal to draw new industries to McPherson. The proposal includes advertising McPherson's low energy rates through a variety of media.

Technology

The commissioners approved $8,000 for upgrades to the server room in the McPherson County Courthouse, including power upgrades and battery backups.

Public works

Commissioners approved bids for road materials for 2017. The cost is expected to be less than $815,870. The commission also approved $12,000 for reflective sheeting used to make road signs in county townships and cities.
