LOST SPRINGS — A blistering fast start from the Elyria Christian School boys basketball team complimented by a monster second half surge from Marion resulted in an entertaining first round of the Center Classic Tuesday night.

Up 33-18 at halftime, the Eagles watched as Marion scored 40 points in the second half, 25 in the fourth quarter, to erase a 15 point lead. Fortunately, the Marion rally fell three points short as the Eagles held on for a 61-58 win.

The majority of the scoring came from three Eagles: Tyler Thiessen with 16, Aidan Fields with 17, and Caleb Froese with a season high 19 points.

“The boys came out extremely strong in the first half,” head coach Zach Goodrich said. “We executed well on offense and did well in our zone defense. In the second half we let up a bit, but were able to do some little things to get away with a win. I was proud of how the guys competed and look forward to the semifinals Friday.”

ECS will face host Centre High School at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the next round.
