STERLING — Both Smoky Valley High School basketball teams will be playing for fifth place in the Sterling Invitational on Friday.
The boys were triumphant over Lyons on Wednesday, 48-40, led Nick Reinert’s 14 points. The Vikings fell behind early, but outscored the winless Lions 18-7 in the second quarter and never let up.
The Vikings play Beloit at 4:45 p.m at Sterling High School.
The SVHS girls exploded in the second quarter of their game to turn a four point first quarter deficit into a 21-20 halftime lead.
From there the Vikings took control and outscored Southeast of Saline 24-14 in the second half for a 44-29 victory. Katie Bellah and Kate Deterding scored 14 points a piece to lead the Vikings.
SVHS will take on Hutchinson Trinity at 3 p.m. at Sterling College.
