LOST SPRINGS — A Centre Classic championship was in reach for the Elyria Christian School boys basketball team Saturday night in Lost Springs. Although both teams made plays down the stretch, it was Solomon who made the last play as the Eagles dropped a heartbreaker, 41-38, despite 15 points from Tyler Thiessen.
“[Solomon] hit a big shot at the end, and I felt like we made a lot of big plays down the stretch as well, they just made the last one,” head coach Zach Goodrich said. “Solomon is a really good team, and I felt we lost a lot of 50-0 balls down the stretch. We put a big emphasis on building from the previous game, and I believe we did that for the most part.”
The Eagles were in control for most of the first half, soaring out to an 11-4 lead before taking a 21-16 lead into halftime. Solomon led by one entering the fourth quarter and made one more big play down the stretch to claim the championship. ECS was outscored 37-28 after the first quarter.
Thiessen scored 15 points on 60 percent shooting while Kobe Neufeldt pitched in seven.
